Locking my Brompton

While I love the fact I can take my Brompton everywhere at times it is just not convenient and so I also carry a lock. The downside is the stronger the lock the heavier it is. But only a problem if you use a messenger bag rather than a Brompton bag as you are carrying that extra weight on your back. I use an Abus Varedo D lock that is 300mm in length. It does come smaller but I got this size to ensure that it will get around the bike wheel and a post. The lock slips into the Timbuk 2 messenger bag and off I go. I choose this lock because it has a security rating and while no lock is unbreakable my insurance company would not be happy if I didn’t attempt to have adequate protection for the Brompton. There are locks with a higher rating but these are too heavy to carry around. I always lock my bike to a metal post. Brompton dynamo lights

Sadly my Brompton dynamo lights have let me down again. The lights have not worked consistently since the bike got the service in August. I had a few hiccups at the beginning when I first got the Brompton but the lights worked fine after this. Now I get the front or the rear light, rarely both together. Because of the hospital trips I have not had time to get to Comptons to sort out the problem. Luckily I have always had backup LED lights. I am not sure about the make of mine. I got them at the same time as the bike and Comptons just put them on. They are larger than the ones on my Trek bike but I was really concerned to be seen at the beginning and I used them with the dynamo lights. When the dynamo lights work you get a good bright light and the rear light retains light for about three minutes after you stop pedalling. Parking at The British Museum

Unlike the Tate you still cannot leave a folded bike in the cloakroom at The British Museum so I had to carry my lock on Saturday. I found out that the same applies to The V&A Museum .
